Valerie Kittell, Steve B Howard, Zarina Dara 🥀💃🏻, I admit being a little confused, thinking that Medium was for creative writers but then finding a large community of people eager to teach me how to game the system with articles and articles and articles about the system … it all seemed more introspective than expressive. Maybe not the community I wanted.

As T.S. Johnson mentions, that is OK and maybe I can go elsewhere. After poking around I found that there is a fiction writing community here. It just requires some digging because they are not, I guess, the money making part of the platform? I’m still learning.

I felt uncomfortable with the statement about staying awake and writing another article until hitting a fan goal. I can see why that makes sense for TJ, because it supports his primary goal as cultivating a supplemental income source for his freelance writing. It is a methodical and practical approach that works.

But it bursts my bubble of finding a place that rewards an alternate process some creatives need, which is a time-intensive crafting and revisiting and editorial cycle. No disrespect or judgement of TJ’s writing, who I follow and enjoy reading, but I would not be able to adhere to that advice and produce good content.

TJ — thank you for the solid plan and sharing what works for you! I am ever curious and learning about Medium, and how other writers make it work for them, and figuring out what it means for me. I appreciate you opening the door to your process to help us all learn more together!
